Hailing from New Haven, CT, The Way Up's catalog encompasses a range of sounds: from ambient and downtempo subtractive meditations to retro-futuristic Synthwave tracks that would fit right in in a dystopic neon wasteland.
Described as "sounding like a lost Miami Vice episode where Tubbs (Tough, Unique, Bad, Bold and Sassy) goes to Space to solve space crimes," The Way Up brings a fresh take on all of the sounds you remember from the 80s and 90s. Whether it's Synthpop, New Wave, New Age, or a hint of Industrial, his music marries nostalgia and novelty, melancholy and hope, analog and digital.
With a focus on handheld trackers and lightweight, portable gear (a device descended from a Game Boy, a MIDI controller, a subtractive synth, and an FX box), The Way Up doesn't just create massive, moving soundscapes, he does so with a minimalist hardware setup that defies belief.
